Tokyo, July 28 (IANS/EFE) The 28th Tokyo International Film Festival in October will open with US filmmaker Robert Zemeckis’ latest film “The Walk” starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the organisers announced on Tuesday.

The movie “Terminal” by Japanese director Tetsuo Shinohara will close the festival, to be held from October 22 to 31, they added.

The festival, this year too, will have a special section dedicated to anime or Japanese animation, including a programme featuring “Mobile Suit Gundam”, one of Japan’s most famous robot franchise, the original version of which premiered in 1979.

It will also screen dozens of episodes from different series of the franchise including feature films and short films.

This year’s festival will also include three new sections ‘Panorama’, ‘Japan Now’ and ‘Japanese Classics’ and focus on Philippine movies in the section ‘Crosscut Asia’, a showcase dedicated to Asian productions.

The section was introduced last year and included an exclusive programme dedicated to Thai cinema.

Apart from Roppongi Hills, this year the films will also be screened at Shinjuku district, which this year named Godzilla, a giant monster, as its new citizen and tourism ambassador.
