Toll Collection from Local Vehicles Issue Dominates Udupi ZP meeting
Udupi: The issue of toll collection from local vehicles in Padubidri and Sastan Toll Plaza dominated the proceedings of the general body meeting of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat (ZP) here on Thursday, September 6.
Raising the issue ZP member Janardhan Tonse said, “The Navayuga Company is collecting toll from Local vehicles. After the protest, the company stopped collecting toll in Padubidri and Sastan Toll Plazas”. He also demanded that the company should not collect toll from the KA 20 registered vehicles.
BJP member Reshma Uday Shetty said, “The Navayuga Company has constructed the Toll Plaza on the Gram Panchayat Road and is collecting toll at Hejamadi. Taxi drivers and local vehicles are passing through the Gram Panchayat road. Is there a permission to construct a Toll Plaza on the Gram Panchayat Road?”, she questioned.
Replying to the allegations by members, Navayug Company Engineer Raghavendra said, “Many vehicles are passing from the Hejamadi Gram Panchayat road to avoid paying the toll. We are collecting toll only from the heavy vehicles, we have got the permission from the deputy commissioner and Principal Secretary. As per the order of deputy commissioner, the company will not collect toll from the local vehicles till October,” he said.
Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty, MLC Prathapchandra Shetty, Vice presdient Sheela Shetty, Standing committee president Shashikanth Padubidri, Babu Shetty, Uday Kotian and others were present.
