Total Lockdown Evokes Good Response in Udupi District
Udupi: The total lockdown announced by the state government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus has evoked a good response in Udupi district on Sunday, July 5.
The lockdown did not apply to essential services and activities such as the sale of grocery, vegetables etc. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and private bus operators suspended their operations. Both private and public modes of transport remained inaccessible to the public.
Taxis and auto-rickshaws also remained off the road. The roads wore a deserted look. Almost all shops, restaurants and other establishments remained closed.
Police personnel had strengthened security across the district to enforce the lockdown strictly. Even the main roads and National Highways remained deserted with only a few vehicles plying. The police had placed barricades at various circles and roads to enforce the lockdown.
