‘La Goa’ Restaurante Partners L-R: Carl Correa and Commander Michael Saldanha
“La Goa” Restaurante was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon by Oscar Fernandes- member of Rajya Sabha {also the relative of Michael Saldanha- one of the partners of ‘La Goa’}, and his wife Blossom Fernandes, along with Ms Sabitha Misquith-MCC Corporator, Placid and Freida Saldanha- the parents of Michael Saldanha, relatives, well-wishers and friends. Ms Blossom Suares, the grandmother of Commander/Capt Michael Saldanha {w/o of Late Col. J W Coelho, whose grandmother Ms S S Coelho had donated the present Nehru Maidan} recited the opening prayer, followed by toast raised by Ms Freida Saldanha.
In her toast, Ms Freida said, ” It’s great to note that the two partners of ‘La Goa’-Carl Correa and my son Commander Michael Saldanha get their most creative ideas 38,000 feet above the ground, in the skies! Flying the 737 Boeing, the initiative to start ‘Crave’ Bakes and desserts was conceived in the cockpit then, and now ‘La Goa’ was conceived during the flight to Dubai from Mangaluru. Carl’s wife Rita is a Goan, and they both make a ‘Mango Couple’- a lovely combination of Mangalorean and Goan. ‘La Goa’ was conceived by Carl, inspired by Rita, and crystallized and engineered by Michael. In a span of four years, Carl and Micheal have opened four ‘Crave’ outlets. And with the launching of this First Goan restaurant, chances are that there could be couple more “La Goa’s” in the future. Let’s all wish these young and energetic entrepreneurs all success in their endeavours”.
Inaugurating the Restaurante, Oscar Fernandes said, ” Seems like ‘La Goa’ was conceived in Dubai and delivered in Mangaluru. When I opened the First ‘Crave’ bakes and desserts in Mangaluru, I had wished both partners Carl Correa and Michael Saldanha all success, and now Crave has branched into four more outlets, in Mangaluru and Manipal. Similarly I want to wish them all success in their new venture, that ‘La Goa’ may also grow with more outlets. With this first Goan restaurant taking birth in Mangaluru, Goan food lovers will not have to travel long distance to Goa-they can experience Goan cuisine right here”. Rynell Rodrigues, hailing from Sanvordem-Goa, who is pursuing his studies in Physiotherapy in Mangaluru, entertained the guests with his solo acoustic Goan Mando and Biala songs. Rynell will play during the weekends at La Goa. Ms Oshanie Fernandes, the sister-in-law of Michael compered the function, while Carl Correa proposed the vote of thanks.
Corporator Sabitha Misquith also speaking said, “I am overwhelmed to note that a First Goan restaurant has opened in my Ward. In future Mangaloreans don’t have to travel a distance to savour Goan food, because as of now you can taste the Goan cuisine right in your hometown-Mangaluru. We all like Goan food, and surely ‘La Goa” will serve you the best and authentic Goan delicacies to satisfy your crave for Goan food.
