Townhall Renamed after Kudmul Ranga Rao, Projects worth Rs 472 crore Launched by Minister Khader
Mangaluru: The renaming of Town Hall after Kudmul Ranga Rao Purabhavana and inauguration of various projects was held at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Purabhavana here on August 29.
The programme began with an invocation. Chief Whip of Mangaluru City Corporation Sashidhar Hegde welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by the District Minister In-charge and also the Minister for Housing and Urban Development U T Khader by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Addressing the gathering U T Khader said, “I am overwhelmed to take part in the renaming ceremony of Town Hall after Kudmul Ranga Rao. Today we have inaugurated and laid the foundation for many projects worth Rs 472 crores. Today I am very happy to rename the Town Hall after Kudmul Ranga Rao, this work should have been done long back since Kudmul Ranga Rao has immensely contributed to the development of the district. Two years ago, in the Ullal constituency, a hall in the name of Kudmul Ranga Rao has been constructed at a cost of Rs one crore. Under the MCC limits, all the Corporators and the elected members have joined hands to rename the Town Hall after Kudmul Ranga Rao. We need to remember those who have worked for the welfare of the district. Kudmul Ranga Rao was born in Kasargod and had worked relentlessly for the upliftment of the Dalits. He had dreamt of uplifting the Dalits by starting a school in 1892 when Ambedkar was just one or two years old. Kudmul Ranga Rao worked for the transformation of the Dalits and set up schools in various places. He had even purchased land with his own money and provided shelter for the homeless. He is an inspiration to us, all of us should follow in his footsteps.”
Minister Khader further said, “DK has its own history and if we need to know the history we should learn about Karnad Sadashiv, Mallya and Kudmul Ranga Rao’s vision, contribution and dedication. Today we have renamed the town hall and his photo should be projected there so that our younger generation knows who is Kudmul Ranga Rao. Today we have got a smart city project for Mangaluru city. All the corporators along with the Mayor and the officers should join hands to make the smart city project successful. We need to improve our capital assets, it is not the question of spending money for the smart city but we need to think of increasing our revenue. The state and Central government are spending 50% percent each for the smart city project. We have formed an advisory committee to monitor the smart city project and we need to call a meeting. The quality and quantity of our work should be maintained at all times. Officers working from past 15 years and those who are not performing well in the MCC should be transferred. Those officers who are efficient and working with integrity will be retained. We cannot run the administration with only a few good officers. It is our duty to see that the administration runs smoothly and systematically with people having their work done without any problems. Religion, caste, creed or influence should not come in the way to get the work done at MCC. Once again I wish the MCC all the very best for their achievements. Everyone coming to MCC should feel comfortable and satisfied and have their work done.”
MP Nalin Kumar and Mayor Bhaskar K also spoke on the occasion. MLA of Mangaluru South Constituency Vedavyas Kamath delivered the presidential address. MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Deputy Mayor Mohammed Kunjathbail, Corporators Naveen D’Souza, Praveenchandra Alva and others were also present.
