Traffic Sahib T S Aboobaker passes away
Udupi: T S Abubaker from Kadiyali known as Traffic Sahib passed away on June 23.
For the past 30 to 35 years, Abubaker was performing his duty at the Kadiyali junction during the peak hours of traffic at sharp 8:15 am. His job was controlling traffic at the busy junction and helping school children to cross the road till 10:00 am. In the evening he was back at the same junction from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm to help the students to cross the road.
Abubaker is not a traffic warden nor was he from the police department. But he had dreams of becoming a traffic warden.
While at work, when he saw a young school boy being knocked down by a bus. Abubaker rushed to the spot and carried the boy to the hospital. His timely intervention saved the little one’s life. Since then he decided to help the school children to cross the road safely.
He has been rewarded for his services by NGOs, social organizations, and Swamiji of Udupi Sri Krishna Math. The former home minister Late Dr V S Acharya presented him a Uniform of Traffic warden as a token of recognition for his work. Abubaker was also bestowed a Traffic Warden badge and honour by former Udupi SP Murugan.
