Tragedy averted as bus hits compound wall at Nanthur
Mangaluru: The presence of mind of the driver of Sri Ganesh Motors averted a tragedy after the brakes of the bus failed at Nanthur here on September 13.
Speaking to mangalorean.com the driver of the bus Dolphy said that when he realised that the brakes of the bus were not effective and the bus was out of control, he tried to avoid hitting other vehicles in front of him and rammed the bus into the compound wall near the Egg Sunday shop. Luckily at that time there were no pedestrians or other vehicles in the way. We immediately informed the police about the mishap. We will repair the damage as the compound wall has collapsed.
Some of those who witnessed the mishap said that the brakes of the bus did not fail but it was the negligence of the driver which caused the mishap. The bus was travelling at high speed from Udupi to Mangaluru via Nanthur. While it was moving from Nanthur down the slope at high speed the driver lost control and rammed the bus into the compound wall. A bike rider miraculously escaped being run over by the bus.
Minutes before the mishap customers were relishing snacks right in front of egg sunday where the buss went past
As some of the witnesses have said, these situations happen because there is no speed breaker on this road. But if you noticed the adjacent road going up to Nanthur has got a speed breaker as soon as the concrete road was completed. Hope the media and the public being this issue to the notice of the concerned authorities and avoid such mishaps. Kindly take this seriously. By the grace of God , Nobody was hurt or killed but next time things may not go so well.
I totaly agree with Mr Donald a speed breaker is a must at this spot. We cant come out of shivbagh new road as the buses on the main road dont down…but speed up . plz mangalorean.com take up the issue with the traffic police
