Training on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) held at Mauriksha Palace Apts
Mangaluru: The leading cause for death according to Centre for Disease Control (CDC) is Cardiovascular Disease. It is imperative that every single person is trained to provide Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). When a person is drowning, has a heart attack, a stroke or choking, proper training to identify and immediately provide basic life support within the first 4-5 minutes could mean the difference between life and death.
The resident doctors Dr. Ajit Alfred Solomon, BLS and ACLS instructor AHA( American heart association) Working as Emergency physician in Indiana hospital, Mangaluru; Dr. Joanna Baptist MDS-Associate Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Conducts BLS training for House Surgeons, and Currently working at Manipal College of Dental Sciences Mangaluru, of Maurishka Palace with the support of the Maurishka Palace Apartment Owners Association, had embarked upon the unique and noble cause of educating and training the residents of Maurishka Palace. In probably first of its kind, unique project where over the next few months, every single resident of the complex comprising of 330 flats, and the support staff namely the security and house keeping will all be trained and empowered to provide basic life support.
The first training session saw over 20 enthusiastic residents learn the basics of life support and practice the technique using mannequins under the guidance of Dr Ajit and Dr Joanna on Sunday, 1 March 2020, on A Block Terrace of Maurishka Palace at 10.30 am ( Duration of training: 2 hours). Both doctors also suggested that the complex can consider procuring a defibrillator and maintain an emergency drug kit.
During the training in BASIC LIFE SUPPORT, it comprised of – Identifying cardiac arrest; Hands on training on how to do proper CPR in adults, children and infants; Opening airway and how to give breath; How to relieve choking in adults and kids; and Identifying stroke ( paralysis )
