Training Programme Marks 71st Birthday of SCDCC President Dr Rajendra Kumar
Mangaluru: To mark the 71st birthday of the President of SCDCC Bank, a special training programme was held at the SCDCC Bank premises here on February 24.
The programme began with an invocation. Bellipadi Prasad Kaushil Shetty welcomed the gathering. Dr Rajendra Kumar inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp.
Belapu Deviprasad Shetty delivered the felicitation speech. Dr Rajendra Kumar cut the birthday cake along with his wife and son on the occasion. Dr Rajendra Kumar was felicitated on the occasion with a Peta, Shawl, fruits, garland and memento. Later various co-operative Society heads along with their staff felicitated Dr Rajendra Kumar.
In his inaugural speech, Dr Rajendra Kumar said, “The co-operative heads had said that on February 24, we are organizing a state-level training programme at the Mangaluru branch and you have to be the inaugurator. I said okay to them. I did not even remember my birthday since I do not celebrate it. We should not count how long we will live on this earth but it is important to remember how we lived on this earth. Many people get power and wealth but we should remember that when we die we should leave everything and go with empty hands. When we are alive we should help other people and do good deeds, so that people will remember us for our good work”.
Dr Rajendra Kumar further said, “My journey in the co-operative banks started at a young age. 26 years ago I took charge of the Co-operative bank. In the co-operative societies, we should not play politics. I have spent most of my life with the co-operative societies. In the beginning, I had met Amarnath Shetty who was into politics. He encouraged me to contest the elections in the PLD bank Karkala. Unfortunately last year there was an election and I was elected again. After the elections, we are all united and working for the development of the bank. We all should unite once the election results are out. Competitions should be healthy and not involve any politics. Many are asking me which religion I belong to. My answer is humanity. We should have humanity because humanity is the best religion. Today I would like to thank Dr Veerendra Heggade for guiding me throughout my life.”
Dr Rajendra Kumar also said, “We should not underestimate women. Most of the rural men think that women are just to cook and take care of the children. If women are given opportunities in the government they will be the best rulers. Whenever women get opportunities they should grab them because opportunities will not come every time. We had sent 26 farmers to Israel for training since Israel is practising best agricultural methods using minimum water. This time we will send women to Israel so that they can learn the best methods for agriculture. We are planning to give scholarships to those interested to pursue higher education and help them to complete their studies. I once again thank everyone for celebrating my birthday and honouring me. I assure that I will do my best and never let you down”.
