Transform or Face Strict Action under Provisions of Law – CP Dr Harsha to 355 Rowdy-sheeters during Parade
Mangaluru: To maintain the law and order in the district, police officials in the Police Commissionerate paraded the accused persons included in the rowdy list at the Police Samudaya Bhavan on August 28.
Nearly 355 persons involved in various crimes and included in the Rowdy-sheeter list were brought to the Police Community hall at 11:30 am.
Police commissioner Dr Harsha addressing the rowdy sheeters said, “We are parading you here to make you understand the consequences of getting involved in crimes and transform yourselves as good citizens. We will do everything in our power as per the law to put an end to the criminal activities in the district. All of you are involved in crimes and are now out on bail, you should strictly follow the bail orders. No one is born a criminal, but due to your weaknesses and circumstances, you have been involved in criminal activities. Do not get involved in criminal activities again, don’t take the law into your hands. Avoid your houses being raided by the police and save yourself and your families from embarrassment. Be a disciplined citizen and follow the bail orders. You all have the same rights as anyone of us to live in this society. If you continue your illegal or anti-social activities we will take strict action under the law. We don’t want another rowdy from your family. If you behave well for six months visiting the police station once every week and give all the information you are asked for, we will try to avoid visiting your houses.”
Dr Harsha further said, “You should think of bringing changes within you for your own good. If you change yourself within 6 months and give up your involvement in criminal activities, we will help you come to the mainstream. Every Monday you should come voluntarily to the respective police stations and report about your activities and present job to the police inspector. Those who follow this for six months and document your good behaviour, there are provisions under the law to help you. If your family members are interested in starting any business or work, we will try to help them giving skill development training etc. There are various schemes from the government and we will help those who want to bring changes in their life. Don’t force us to visit your house for investigations, don’t embarrass your family members. If you don’t want to change yourself there are appropriate laws that we will use to take action. Whoever you are and whichever caste or religion you belong strict action will be taken according to the law. Our intention is not to trouble you or your family members but if you don’t follow the bail instructions, we will have to issue a search warrant and come to your home. We will not tolerate those involved in drug peddling.
Dr Harsha also said, “You all know about the goonda and NDPS act. The police department has many ways to curb crime. No one is born as a rowdy or thief. You are all citizens of the country and have the right to lead a disciplined life. If you get involved in crimes or try to destroy the peace in the society we have many ways as per the law to deal with you and we are committed. Attend the court hearings regularly and let the court pronounce you innocent. If the court proves you accused you will be punished. This parade is to make you understand the seriousness of getting involved in criminal activities and to bring changes in your life. We have the beat system “My Beat My Pride” in place where we have 2 lakh members. We get all the information about where you are, what you do and all your activities. Don’t think that you can befriend a constable and feel safe! If you transform for the better, we have many schemes for you and we will help you get to the mainstream. So, transform yourself, decided to be a good citizen of the country”.
