Transforming lives of Children with HIV positively since 2008 – Sneha Care Home

Bengaluru: December 1, 2019, is observed as the World AIDS day. HIV is the abbreviation for human immunodeficiency virus and Acquired Immunodeficiency Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the disease condition. In general communication, the terms HIV and AIDS convey the same condition and are interchangeable. The theme of this year’s World AIDS day is “communities make the difference”. There are over 37.9 million people living with AIDS in the world today and of this, over 2.1 million people are in India. India has an estimated 145,000 children <15 years of age who are infected by HIV/AIDS, and about 22,000 newborns are infected every year. Children account for 7% of all the new HIV infections. More than 90% of the HIV infections in children are the result of maternal-to-child transmission (MTCT).

Tucked away from the din of Bengaluru on the Sarjapur Road is a serene home for these hapless children living with HIV (CLHIV) called Sneha Care Home.

Sneha Charitable Trust started  Sneha Care Home & Shining Star School as a residential facility and school for children living with HIV on July 14, 2008, with 20 children. It was started with the aim of developing a model program that would comprehensively address the multi-faceted issues of children living with HIV. Most of these children were those who were left behind in Snehadaan after the death of their parent/s. Today it is home to over 100 CLHIV.

To create awareness about HIV/AIDS and Children Living with HIV and commemorate the World AIDS Day Sneha Care Home conducts an annual event called “Sneha Run”.

Sneha Run 2019 is the ninth edition of the annual 5k Run/Walk to be hosted in the city, to raise funds for Champion in me arts and sports day, exclusively for the children living with HIV, from all over Karnataka as well as for Sneha Care Home, a residential care facility. Moreover, it aims to make the society collectively think about the FUTURE of Children living with HIV/AIDS in relation to World HIV/AIDS day. The run has grown in popularity over the years because of your passion for running and commitment towards social causes.

You are invited to participate in Sneha Run 2019!
