Treat Transgenders with Respect – Pramod Madhwaraj

Udupi:  “Every individual wants to live in a respectful manner in this society. The mindset of the people towards transgenders should change”, said the district minister in-charge and also minister for sports, youth service and fisheries Pramod Madhwaraj.

He was speaking after inaugurating the day-long programme with transgenders organized by the district women congress at the Taluk Panchayat Auditorium Udupi here on Saturday, May 27.

Pramod further said, “Indira Gadnhi was a remarkable personality of the 20th century and served as Prime Minister of India. Indira Gandhi was the key architect of modern India. She played a major role in shaping our country’s destiny during the critical period in history. She was unflinching in her concern for the poor and the marginalized. On the occasion of the centenary birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, the district women’s congress organized such a memorable programme is commendable”.

He also said, “For the first time in the history of Karnataka the Siddaramaiah led congress government has come forward to help the transgenders and bring them to the mainstream. It was a very bold step by the chief minister fulfilling their long-pending demand.

In Udupi district 4 transgenders have been given sites for the construction of houses. Udupi district is a model for the state and for the first time transgenders have received sites to build houses. Other transgenders who are eligible to receive site, can apply and the administration will sanction house sites on a priority basis. The government is also planning to give job security to the transgenders, in Udupi district we have already decided to recruit transgenders on an outsourcing basis”, he added.
