Trump Organization looks at selling Washington D.C. hotel

Washington: The Trump Organization is considering selling the rights to the Trump International Hotel in downtown Washington D.C.

“Since we opened our doors, we have received tremendous interest in this hotel and as real estate developers, we are always willing to explore our options,” Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization and son of US President Donald Trump, said in a statement on Friday.

“People are objecting to us making so much money on the hotel, and therefore we may be willing to sell,” he added.

The Trump International Hotel, located blocks from the White House, is in the city’s 121-year-old Old Post Office, which is owned by the federal government but leased to the Trump Organization, reports Xinhua news agency.

The company is reportedly hoping to gain more than $500 million for the transfer of the leasing rights.

Democrats and watchdog groups have long raised questions about the Trump family’s business dealings.

Trump declined to sell his businesses after he was elected President and instead put them into a trust controlled by his family members.

The D.C. hotel opened shortly before Election Day in 2016.
