TRV to Stage protest Against Ban on Kambala on Jan 24

Mangaluru: The Tulunada Rakshana Vedike will stage a protest against the ban on Kambala on January 24, at 11:00 am in front of the DC office”, said the president of TRV Yogish Shetty Jeppu in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on January 23.

Addressing the mediapersons Yogish said, “The PETA has compared the Jallikattu to the Kambala and the Supreme Court has put a ban on both Jallikattu and Kambala. The people of Tamil Nadu joined together and protested against the decision by the Supreme court and demanded to lift the ban on Jallikattu. Here in Dakshina Kannada, our politicians are not responding against the ban on Kambala. We all should join hands and demand to lift the ban on Kambala”.

In the past TRV has staged protests against the ban on Kambala and we are ready to stage a protest against the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The PETA has no knowledge about the buffalloes, cows or any other animals. The PETA thinks that Jallikattu and Kambala are same and it is cruelty to the buffaloes. If Kambala is cruelty against the Animals then why in Mysuru, the Jumboo Savari is allowed. Is it not cruelty against the elephants? In Mysuru during the Dasara, the Goddess is taken in a procession in the palanquin on the back of the Elephant, why is the PETA not fighting against it? he questioned.

Yogish also said that celebrities, politicians and the people of Tamil Nadu got down to the streets to fight against the ban on Jallikattu but in our district, it is sad to note that the politicians are not bothered to retain the traditional sports Kambala. All the political leaders, the chief minister and ministers from all the parties should forget party differences and join hands to retain the traditional sports Kambala.

The Tulunada Rakshana Vedike is ready to support all the organizations who fight against the ban on Kambala.

Prashant Bhat Kadaba, Mohandas Rai, Anand Amin, Srikanth Salian, Rakshith K, Gerald Towers and others were also present.
