Tulu Actor Naveen Padil Appointed as ‘Swachhata Rayabhari’ for Kudla
Mangaluru: Popular Tulu film comedy actor Naveen D Padil has been appointed as “Swachhata Ambassador” by Mangaluru City Corporation. The ambassador is an important part of the mission that the civic body has to undertake, as it readies for the Swachh Survekshan that the ministry of urban development is undertaking through its Swachh Bharat Mission. The corporation council, that met under MCC Mayor Kavitha Sanil’s stewardship, unanimously approved the agenda.
The Swachh Survekshan will be carried out in 4,041 cities and towns across India under the mission, including 277 cities and towns in Karnataka. The central survey team appointed by the ministry will be in this coastal city for a month from January 4, 2018, for a spot survey of various parameters, included under the cleanliness survey that is used to determine the cleanest city in the country.
The survey team will interact with MCC officials, public and other stakeholders, including voluntary and service organizations. Under the handbook released by the ministry for Swachh Survekshan 2018, the appointment of a Swachhata ambassador is a must and such a person has to play a pivotal role in spreading the message on various programmes about the cleanliness campaign.
Speaking to the media , Mayor said that the choice of Naveen for this vital role was based on his overall popularity and mass acceptability as an actor. “Naveen Padil has a mass following for his role in Tulu theatre and the film industry. It makes sense to pitch in a local artiste rather than avail the service of any other leading name who will help the city corporation spread the same message. Naveen has agreed to be our brand ambassador for cleanliness,” .
