Tulu Koota Boston USA Elects New President and Executive Committee
USA: Annual General Body Meeting of New England Tulu Koota (NETK) Boston USA was held in Recreation Park Andover in Boston. Dr. Sudhakara Rao has been unanimously elected as President for the term 2019-2021. Prasanna Lakshman and Deepak Jain have been unanimously eelected as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively. NETK also elected Mohair Shetty Kodavoor, Sowmya Puttur, Kavita Shetty, Rashmi Shetty, Shailashree Sherigar, Ramita Zenith as directors and Rajesh Salian, Vadhiraj Belle, Roshan Puttur, Karunakara Darbe, Ashwin Shetty, Arun Somayaji and Dhanraj Kotian as Executive Committee members. Deepak Kambadakone smoothly conducted the election process. Boston Tulu Koota elects new Executive Committee (EC) once in every two years.
The outgoing president of past two terms, Bhaskara Sherigar, General Secretary Puja Shetty and Treasurer Sharath Amin and executive committee members thanked Tulu Koota members for their support and welcomed new president, general secretary, treasurer, directors and executive committee members.
AGM was held during the annual outdoor activity, Jokulatige 2019 – an opportunity for the people of Tulunadu to feel the touch of the motherland. Boston Tulu Koota has been organizing “Jokulatige” in every summer for the past six years. Jokulatige literally means “kids play” in Tulu language and everything was there to eat like kids and play like kids.
Main attraction and tradition of the event was home-cooked Tulunadu delicacies from volunteer families. More than 20 families cooked 31 items like punarpuli saaru, pathrode, kudutha chutney, moode, idli, chicken sukka, gasi, kundapura chicken, yetti gasi, kodakkene, jackfruit sukka, mensikayi, mango rasayana, payasa, the list goes on. Sumptuous lunch satisfied the taste buds, taste and authenticity of these delicacies lie in the family recipes came from generation to generation.
After the election for the new committee, organizers planned rural rare games of Tulunadu like Tarayida Katta, Lagori besides cricket, volleyball, sack race, sprint etc. Tulunadu sports and games are other main attractions of Jokulatige. It was really exciting to see tiny legs inside the bag in kid’s sack race and the confidence in the face of every kid in sprint activities. The excitement was not just limited to kids, “Tarayida Katta” was a popular game and thrilled the participants. With all these, nobody realized how fast the time has passed, the gala ended with the musical chairs for ladies.
This event also provided an opportunity to socialize, meet friends, share the summer experience, talk about good old days spent in motherland etc. Hot tea and tasty golibaje were prepared on-site by the volunteers. All the winners were honored with certificates. Organizers thanked all the volunteers, food volunteers, all who helped in audio, video, photography, cleanup, setup, logistics, games, sports and made this jokulatige a successful event.
