Two arrested for Extortion and Robbery case in City Mall
Mangaluru: The North Police have arrested two youth in connection with extortion and robbery cases at the City Centre on May 18.
The arrested have been identified as Asif Hussain alias Shafiulla Shariff alias Zabi Tiger alias Shafi (28) from Bengaluru and Afzar Ahamed (25) from Mysuru.
According to the complaint received from students, the duo were extorting money in a mall threatening them with life. Based on the complaint, the police formed a special investigation team under the able leadership of Police Inspector Yogesh Kumar.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they found the mall to be a suitable place for robbery. Both the accused had been targetting the youth as well as women and extorting money and threatening their lives if they refused to give them gold ornaments.
Under the direction of Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar and the able guidance of DCP law and order Hanumantharaya, DCP Crime and Traffic Uma Prashant and ACP crime and traffic M Jagadish, the operation was carried out by the North Police Inspector Yogish Kumar, PSI Ananth Murdershwar, ASI Padmanabh, Sujan Shetty, Mahesh, Valentine George D’Souza, Dayanand, Vasu Naik, Ramesh, Basavaraj and Sagar.
The police commissioner appreciated the quick action by the police inspector and his team in arresting the accused and recovering the gold ornaments in three different cases.
It is learnt that both the accused have a criminal background. 10 cases have been filed against Asif Hussain and 2 cases against Afzar in Bengaluru Police stations.
