Two arrested for Snatching Old man’s Bag with Rs 27 lakh Cash

Mangaluru: The Central Subdivision Anti Rowdy squad arrested two youth on December 8, in connection with snatching the bag containing cash of Rs 27 lakhs, in the Urwa police station limits on October 20.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Shafi (26) and Mohammed Riyaz (19) both from Belthangady.

According to the police on October 20, at around 7:30 pm, a 64-year-old man was on his way home via Bejai Sri Ram Bhajana Mandir. The accused came on a motorbike, attacked the old man and snatched his bag containing Rs 27 lakh cash and fled from the spot. In this connection, a case was filed in the Urwa police station.

The anti-rowdy squad got into action and arrested both the accused. The police recovered Rs 16.57 lakh and a motorbike bearing registration number KA 21 U 6006 which was used for the crime from their possession.

The operation was carried out by the ACP of Central Sub Division Bhaskar Okkaligaa, police inspector Ravish S Nayak, Sub Inspector Pradeep T R, Staff Velestine D’Souza, Gangadhar N, Santhosh Sasihithlu, Kishore Kotian, Pramod Maryhill, Nagaraj Chandaragi and Basavaraj Naik.
