Two Arrested in Connection with Major Cyber Fraud in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: In a significant development, law enforcement officials in Mangaluru have apprehended two individuals linked to an extensive cyber fraud case that has resulted in financial losses exceeding ₹77,96,322.

The arrested have been identified as Ummer Valia Parambath (41) and Riyaz M V (45) both from Kerala.

In this connection a case was registered at the Central Economic Crime (CEN) Police Station, detailing an elaborate scheme involving deceitful promises of high returns on stock market investments.

The investigation began when a local complainant reported being misled by fraudsters who lured him through WhatsApp, claiming that substantial dividends would be achieved through his investments in the stock market. The funds were reportedly siphoned off in a phased manner, illustrating the sophisticated nature of the scam.

Following a meticulous inquiry, the police gathered crucial information regarding the bank accounts utilized by the culprits to receive the transferred amounts. It was discovered that a total of ₹26,27,114 was transferred to an individual based in West Bengal. Additionally, this person facilitated a transfer of ₹6,00,000 to a second individual named Parambath, in Kerala.

In light of the findings, investigators focused their efforts on tracing the suspects from Kerala involved in the transactions. Their relentless pursuit led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the two individuals, whose identities have not yet been disclosed pending further investigations. The accused have since been presented before the Court, where legal proceedings will continue.

The operation was conducted under the direction of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, IPS, and was supported by Deputy Commissioners of Police Law &Order Siddharth Goel and DCP Crime & Traffic Ravishankar. The successful operation was spearheaded by ACP Ravish Nayak, along with Station Police Inspector Satish M P, and Sub-Inspector of Police Gurappa Kanti.
