Two Groups Fight over Administration of Mosque at Katapadi, One Group Fires in the Air

Udupi: At least four people were injured after a clash erupted following a dispute between two groups claiming possession of the Mosque administration at Katapadi on Wednesday, October 24.

According to the SP Laxman Nimbaragi, the Hidayathul Islam Arabic & Urdu Madarasa Mosque situated at Katapadi had elected a new administration in the month of July. After the new office bearers took charge internal clashes began, later the elected Mosque administration decided to resign.

On Wednesday the election for the new administrative body was held. During the elections, clashes erupted between the two groups led by Akbar and Hameed over the Mosque’s Administration.

Both the groups started raising Pro and against slogans inside the Mosque premises. This led to heated exchanges between the groups. The seniors tried their best to pacify both the groups, but some of them started exchanging blows. At one point, Akbar brought a gun and fired in the air at the same time Hameed resorted to flash a Machete.

Sensing trouble, the Mosque committee sought police protection. The Kaup Police rushed to the spot and dispersed both groups from the spot.

At least four people including Akbar and Hameed were injured in the clashes and are admitted to the hospital. As a precautionary measure police security has been deployed in the hospital, said the SP.

SP Laxman Nimbaragi visited the Spot and collected the necessary information.

Both groups have filed separate complaints in the Kaup Police station and investigation is on.
