Two held for stealing inverter batteries to sell in own shop
New Delhi: Two men, who stole batteries from inverter shops in night and sold them from their own shop, have been arrested, police said on Thurday.
The accused – Rahul, 26 and Abid Malik, 23, – stole the batteries from shops in west and north Delhi and sold them from their east Delhi shop, a police officer said, adding 13 stolen batteries were recovered from them.
“On a tip off, a Crime Branch team initially arrested Rahul from west Delhi’s Vijay Vihar on June 14 while he was roaming on a stolen scooty. On information from him, Malik was arrested on Wednesday,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Joy Tirkey said.
According to the officer, the two disclosed, during interrogation, that they specifically targetted battery and inverter shops located in west and north Delhi during night and later sold them from their own shop in Mustafabad in the day.
The two also revealed that they, along with their other accomplices Salman and Kapil – who are still at large – had committed a number of burglaries of batteries in Rohini and areas on the city’s outskirts.
Their shop is in Salman’s name but is co-owned by all of them, the DCP said.
