Two Police Constables Arrested for Helping Cattle Traffickers
Udupi: In a Shocking incident the Kota Police have arrested two police personnel on July 17 in connection with helping cattle traffickers after receiving money from them.
The arrested have been identified as Vinod police constable of Manki Police Station, a native of Uttara Kannada and Santhosh Brahmavar (37) Head constable of the coastal security police.
The police are searching for Raghavendra Head Constable of Kota Police Station, Balasubramanya ASI of Udupi DAR, Head Constables Prashanth and Chandrashekar who have been absconding.
On July 12, after getting reliable information about cattle trafficking, the Kota Police Station SI Nithyananda Gowda and team were checking vehicles at the Sastan Toll Gate. During the check, the occupants in the vehicles including the drivers stopped the vehicles and took to their heels. The Police arrested Shivananda, Maruti Narayana Naika, Ganesh, Sainuddin, Hamid C H and Sameer residents of Mangaluru and Kasargod. The vehicles and the cattle were taken to the police station.
The police rescued Male buffaloes worth Rs 65000, female buffaloes worth Rs 35000 from their possession. The police also seized a truck worth Rs 12 lakh, a India car worth Rs 2 lakh and seven mobile phones from their possession.
During interrogation the accused confessed that the police personnel were helping them while transporting the cattle and in return taking bribe.
Udupi SP Nisha James visited the Kota Police Station and collected necessary information.
The arrested Vinod and Santhosh were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody until July 30.
A case has been registered in the Kota Police Station and investigation is on.
