Two Police Officers Suspended on Charges of Dereliction of Duty in Prostitution Racket case

Udupi: Udupi SP Laxman Nimbargi has suspended two police officers after they were found guilty of dereliction of duty in connection with the prostitution centre raid case.

The suspended police officers are ASI Shekar and PC Suresh of the Manipal Police Station.

On January 29, a team led by Krishnakanth ASP of Karkala arrested 10 persons including a pimp involved in prostitution at Rajeev Nagar in Badagabettu village near Manipal.

Karkala police under the leadership of Karkala assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Krishnakanth raided prostitution centre in Manipal and arrested 10 persons. A complaint regarding prostitution centre was received during the police phone-in programme which led to the raid.

The suspended police officers in spite of having the information about the prostitution centre being operated had delayed in taking action. The district SP has suspended both the officers under suspension with immediate effect in view of dereliction of duty.

The police team has also seized Rs 62,250 in cash, five vehicles, 11 cell phones and condoms from the house among other things.
