UCA Observes Black Day on Tipu Jayanti
Mangaluru: The United Christian Association staged a protest with black flags at Silver Gate here on November 10, against the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti.
Addressing the protesters Robert Rosario said, “In the history of the Coastal district, the Christian Community had suffered a lot under Tipu Sultan ruling. Last year we had staged a protest in front of the DC office, and submitted a memorandum to the government through the DC but the government without considering our feelings has celebrated Tipu Jayanti”.
Robert further said, “In the coming days we will let the government know the power of the Christian community. The government is playing with the sentiments of Christians by celebrating Tipu Jayanti. The Christian community means, the voters of the Congress. Tipu Sultan was the worst enemy of the Christian community because he killed thousands of people from our community. The government without considering the pain the Christian community had gone through under Tipu Sultan rule, has celebrated his Jayanti. We had decided to stage a protest in front of the DC office but due to section 144, we did not get the permission. In the coming days, we will raise our voice against the Tipu Jayanti celebrations”.
UCA President Alban Menezes and others were also present.
