UDBA to Host All-India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament from July 2
Udupi: The Udupi District Badminton Association is hosting an All India Sub- Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament in the city for one week, starting from July 2, said local MLA and working President of the Tournament Organising Committee Raghupathi Bhat.
He was addressing a press meet at Hotel Diana on Tuesday June 25. The tournament will be held in singles and doubles categories for boys and girls separately. In all, about 1,000 players are expected to participate in the event.
The matches would be held at two indoor stadiums including District Indoor Stadium Ajjarkad in Udupi and Mareena Stadium in Manipal.
The Badminton Association of India is deputing observers, while about 50 technical officers from all over the country will participate in the event. “The budget is expected to be about ₹45 lakh including prize money of ₹3.50 lakh for the winners,” he said.
“The qualifying matches will be held for the first three days in the two stadiums simultaneously. Last four days will be dedicated to the main draw,” he said.
