Udupi: A 16-year-old youth drowned while swimming with his friends in the Sita River, Barkur here on July 5.
The deceased has been identified as Anish Picardo (16), son of Alphonse and Sabitha Picardo, residents of Hosala Barkur.
According to the police, Anish Picardo along with 10 of his friends took part in a cricket match at Brahmavar which was organised by Metro Guys. After the cricket match, all of them had planned to go for swimming in the Sita river in Barkur.
Anish along with his friends got into the river. While they were swimming in the river, Anish was dragged away by a strong current. His friends tried to save him but they did not succeed in their efforts.
They immediately informed the concerned authorities. The police and the rescue team reached the spot and later recovered the body. The body was shifted to the hospital for post mortem.
Anish Picardo was the former president of YCS, St Peters Church Barkur. He is survived by his parents and a brother.
The Brahmavar Police have registered the case.
