Udupi: 25 couples entered into wedlock in the presence of a large gathering at the ‘Mass Marriage Ceremony’, organized by the G Shanker Family Trust and Udupi District Mogaveera Youth Organization at Shyamili Auditorium Ambalpady, here on Thursday April 30.
The 7th annual mass marriage ceremony was led by Vedamurti Sagri Vedavyasa Aithal, chief priest of Anantheshwara Temple, in the presence of dignitaries and veterans of Mogaveer community and local elders. Over the past five years a total of 159 pairs have entered into wedlock.
Speaking to Mangalorean.com, G Shanker Family Trust founder, Dr G Shanker said that mass marriages will benefit the community members as the couples entering into the wedlock hail from poor families. The aim of organizing such kind of mass marriages is to stop the menace of dowry and to shun ostentatious marriages in the Mogaveera community.
He also said that in the coming days mass wedding for 101 couples will be held. The couples were presented Mangalsutra, Toe ring, Sari and dress. The couple would also be given a gift by the organization. All these marriages would also be registered, he said.
Former MLA Lalaji R Mendon, Entrepreneurs K C Kundar, Ananda Kundar, Shalini Shanker, Keshav Kunder, President of the DK District Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha and several others leaders of the community were present during the occasion.
