Udupi: Out of the nearly 7,500 candidates who arrived for the Army Recruitment drive at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, as many as 350 candidates have been selected, informed Col Vishwanath, Director (Recruitment), Army Recruitment Office Mangaluru.
Speaking to mediapersons on February 9 at Ajjarkad Ground, Col Vishwanath, said that the response for Soldier General Duty, Soldier General Duty (DSC), Soldier (Technical) and Soldier (Nursing Assistant), Soldier Clerk/ Store Keeper Technical, Religious Teacher, Junior Commissioned officer and Havildar Education was very encouraging. The drive was conducted with absolute transparency under full media and public scrutiny.
350 youth were referred to a hospital in Bengaluru for further fitness tests. Next, these youth will have to pass a written Common Entrance Examination. The selected candidates will have to appear for a written test to be held on March 1 in Bengaluru, Mangaluru and Belagavi.
Deputy Commissioner Dr R Vishal speaking on the occasion said that the army provides excellent remuneration and facilities for soldiers. At present, a Jawan gets approximately Rs 15,000 per month. However, it may go up to Rs 20,000 if the Jawan is posted in field areas. Besides, the soldiers are provided free clothing, ration, accommodation and medical benefits, he said.
