Udupi: 40 Students Injured in Bee Attack at Valakadu School

Udupi: A sudden bee attack at Government High School in Valakadu resulted in injuries to nearly 40 students on Tuesday, January 28 afternoon. The incident transpired around 3:30 PM when students were engaged in recreational activities on the school grounds.

According to District Surgeon Dr. Ashok Kumar, a total of 40 students sustained injuries during the incident, with varying degrees of severity. Emergency services were promptly activated, and the injured students were transported to Udupi District Hospital for medical attention. Among those injured, three students required hospitalization, while the remaining individuals were treated as outpatients. Additionally, one parent accompanying the students is also receiving treatment at the hospital.

Preliminary reports indicate that the crisis began when a student inadvertently provoked a nearby beehive by throwing a stone at it. This action triggered a swarm of bees, which led to widespread panic among the students as they fled the school premises. In the ensuing chaos, teachers and other parents swiftly intervened, ensuring that the injured were taken to the hospital without delay.

Authorities have since urged schools to raise awareness about safety precautions regarding natural hazards, particularly in outdoor environments. The District Health Department is closely monitoring the situation and has provided guidance on managing such incidents in the future.

Efforts are ongoing to assess the full impact of the incident, and local officials will conduct a review to determine necessary preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
