Udupi: Earlier this week, a private TV channel from here had aired a panel discussion on a controversy raised by a few Kannada writers and thinkers on a holy book.

Shekhar Hejamadi and Subrahmanya Rao Yellur had taken part in the said discussion along with the anchor. As the programme was in progress, Subrahmanya Rao Yellur is said to have announced that he would set fire to the Constitution of India.

Angered by this, two separate complaints have been filed by activist Jayan Malpe in the Malpe police station and another in Padubidri station by the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti.

Now the district unit of the Samata Sainik Dal, led by Vishwanath Petri, has filed a complaint at the office of the district superintendent of police here and also the Brahmavar police station.

He has called the statement a great insult to the Constitution of India and its chief architect Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. He has also appealed to the police officials to view this matter seriously and put a check on sick mindsets which harbour the thoughts of setting fire to the real holy book of Indian democracy.
