Udupi: After a break, heavy rains lashed the district from Wednesday. The city and its outskirts received heavy showers from the night of July 8 and continuing on July 9. The downpour also brought a relief to people reeling under the scorching heat.
Traffic was held up along the main roads due to the downpour. The National Highway was waterlogged and people were seen moving through flooded roads while the traffic was moving at a snails pace at several points.
Many parts of the district especially Karkala, Padubidri, Kaup, Koteshwara and many other places received heavy rainfall. Udupi district received 61.7 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Karkala taluk has recorded the highest of 86.1 mm rainfall, followed by Udupi – 51.6mm and Kundapur – 47.3mm.
