Udupi: “Anti-social elements disturbing social harmony will be effectively handled,” said Dr G Parameshwar, Home Minister and president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. He was speaking after inaugurating the party workers convention held at Kaup here, on November 8.

Dr Parameshwar said that only the police officials can enforce law and no other organisations should take law into their hands. If such incidents are reported, the department will initiate stringent action against those who are involved.

“The Congress party is a party functioning with principles of social justice, equality and socio-economic development. Our leaders have sacrificed their lives for these principles and we are still firm on promoting our principles. The Congress party has relied on its principles and will continue its efforts to safeguard the interests of the nation.”

He accused the BJP of trying hard to realise Winston Churchill’s words, “They will fight amongst themselves for power and India will be lost in political squabbles. A day would come when even air and water would be taxed in India”. He also said that PM Narendra Modi’s developmental agenda seems to be duped in Bihar. The people of Bihar have witnessed the failure of the government at the centre, which has only completed one and a half year.

“Congress will come back to power at the centre. The Congress’ development oriented mantra of promoting social justice, economic development and upliftment of the poor will prevail again. The party has briefed 66,000 booths on MLC, ZP and TP elections. Women and youth party workers should work effectively to win the MLC, ZP and TP elections,” said Parameshwar.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development and Minister in-charge of District, said that Shobha Karandlaje has limited herself to criticise the state government’s initiatives while her contribution to Udupi-Chikkamagaluru LS constituency is in minimum. “The victory of the Grand Alliance in Bihar itself shows that people do not need speeches but effective action. The Kaup Block Congress is working effectively for victory in the coming ZP, TP elections. The Women Congress and the Youth Congress have been strengthened and they will promote the Congress legacy among others,” he added.

Jayaprakash Hegde, former MP Udupi-Chikkamagaluru LS Constituency; Gopal Poojary, MLA Byndoor and president of District Congress; former MLA Gopal Bhandary; Veronica Cornelio, Chairperson of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited; Nivedith Alva, Chairman of Coastal Development Authority; Naveen Chandra Shetty, President Kaup Block Congress, ZP member Ida Gibba D’Souza, Congress leaders Devi Prasad Shetty, Leena Mathias, Abdul Azeez, Geeta Wagle, Sarasu D. Bangera, Ashok Kodavoor and others were present.

Prior to the programme, a bike rally was organised from Hejamadi to welcome Dr Parameshwar. He also received a guard of honour from the Seva Dal.

200 people join Congress: The members of JD(S) and many other parties joined the Congress party. Dr Parameshwar welcomed 200 people into the Congress fold and advised them to respect and obey the party principles.
