Udupi: Artists Forum holds ‘World Art Day’ with art exhibition in district Jail

Udupi: To mark the ‘World Art Day’ the Artists Forum organised a exhibition of paintings in Anjaru sub-jail with a positive impact on the inmates. The forum organised sessions for the prisoners on drawing tattoos, cartoons and paintings. Scores of inmates participated in the programme.

Renowned Psychiatrist and Medical Director of A V Baliga Memorial Hospital Udupi, Dr P V Bhandary and renowned artist Ramesh Rai inaugurated the exhibition.

Dr Bhandary speaking on the occasion said that art is the finest form of expression, a vision with thoughts, imagination and ideas that has been transferred into a form of representation chosen by the artist.

Vidyananda Shetty who is out on parole was undergoing life imprisonment in Mysore Jail. He shared his experiences when he had been involved in theatre. He appealed to the inmates not to commit crime as it ruins their lives forever. Renowned artist Sachin Jalthar of Hyderabad showcased his talent by drawing a picture during the programme.

Sridhar Prabhu, In-charge Jailer; Purushotam Adve, President Artists Forum; Secretary Saku Pangala, Cartoonist Jeevan Shetty, Artists Venki Palimar, Srinath Manipal, Sharath Kukkehalli, Prasad, Ganesh Kukkehalli, Narendra, Ravinayak, Manjunath Mayya, Janardhan Havanje and others were present.
