Udupi: The members of Ashrayadatha Auto Union together with the public staged a protest against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the people’s representatives for the delay in construction of the road near Karavali Bypass here on August 6.
The members of AAU and the general public conducted minor repairs on the road to mark the protest.
Ramesh Shetty, President of AAU, said that the AAU had urged the NHAI and the district administration to complete the construction of the road on NH 66 near Karavali Bypass as it is creating hurdles for the free flow of traffic. MP Shobha Karanadlaje in her media statement had promised to complete the construction work of the road but the work has not yet been started. She has not even inspected the place, he said.
The NHAI officials have remained silent on the issue. The road has been obstructing traffic and the public. The road is very essential for fishing and tourism activities but politicians have remained silent on the issue.
“If the constituency’s MP and MLAs will not take any action, we will construct the road by raising funds from the public,” he added.
