Udupi Bandh if sand issue not Resolved by Nov 22, warns Dist Truck Owners Association

Udupi: “Udupi district Truck owners association will not support the protest that has been organized by various organizations against the apathy of the district administration in handling the sand crisis in Udupi district on October 25”, said Praveen Suvarna President of the Association.

Speaking at a press meet held at the Narayana Guru Auditorium Bannanje on October 23, Praveen Suvarna said, “The district Construction Material Transport Vehicle Owners and Drivers Association and other various organizations held a protest on October 22 against the delay in the process of initiating measures to extract sand in the district. The deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis held a meeting with the leaders of the District Truck owners association and listened to the grievances of the Truck owners and workers. We have convinced the Deputy Commissioner about the problems the workers, as well as owners, face because of the delay in the process of initiating measures to extract sand in the district.”

“Truck owners and workers have explained the problems in detail to the Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis. The Deputy Commissioner has asked for some time to clear the sand extraction problem in the district. As per the assurance of DC Priyanka we have called off the protest on October 25. If the DC fails to clear the sand problem by November 22 the association will call for Udupi Bandh to protest against the district administration.”

“The Deputy Commissioner has promised to start the extraction of sand in all CRZ, and Non-CRZ areas. The district administration has now permitted sand mining in only 9 sand Bars so that only 60 persons will get the license. If the district administration had given permission in the CRZ and Non-CRZ area at the same time, all the 179 license holders would have got the chance to extract the sand. If the problem is not resolved by November 22, we will hold a massive protest. We do not support the protest that has been called on October 25,” he said.

Chandra Poojary president of Kaup Tempo owners Association, Uday Kumar president of Karkala Truck Owners Association, Gunakar Shetty Kundapur Association president and Rajesh Kumar president of Perdoor Association were present in the press meet.
