Udupi: Chief Judicial Magistrate, Nagajyothi has remanded underworld don Bannanje Raja to judicial custody for a day.
Raja was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court following the expiry of police custody in relation to the Airody Jewellers firing case. The police had produced Raja on the expiry of police custody and the Chief Judicial Magistrate remanded him judicial custody for one day.
The judicial custody expires on September 8 and the team of town police led by PSI Girish will be seeking body warrant of Raja in an attempt to robbery case involving entrepreneur Anand Shetty of Santhekatte.
The public prosecutor for the case was junior public prosecutor Shanta Bai. Defence counsel Amar Correa was also present.
Raja was extradited from Morocco to India on August 14 and was brought to Udupi on August 15 to face cases filed against him. The Indian and Moroccan governments had agreed that Raja would be tried in not more than 16 cases. Of these, four are in Udupi (two at Udupi town station, one each at Malpe and Manipal police stations).
