Udupi: The district unit of Prison Ministry of India (PMI) organised the celebration of Easter at the District Jail Anjaru Hiriyadka here on Saturday, April 11.

The programme began with an invocation by the school children. Gration Buthello of PMI welcomed the gathering. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, presided over the function.

In his presidential message, the bishop said, “Most of you are perhaps inside the four walls of this jail for mistakes not committed by you. But don’t develop a feeling that you are away from the mainstream of society. No human being is a born criminal. On the other hand, sometimes circumstances lead a person to commit mistakes.” He appealed them not to develop hatred. “Instead, try to be role models once you come out of jail.”

Jail Superintendent Sowmya lauded the efforts of the Prison Ministry of India for offering their services and appealed the undertrials to make use of the facilities offered by PMI members. As part of the programme, students of Mount Rosary English Medium School and St Xavier’s School Kolalgiri performed various cultural programmes with the message on reformation.

Prison Ministry of India’s Fr Francis Cornelio, Gration Buthello, Walter, Mark, Assistant PSI Shridhar Rao, Sr Adrian and others were present.
