Udupi: Divya Jyothi Diocesan Centre for Bible, Catechetics and Liturgy organized a felicitation programme for the top scorers in X Standard Diocesan Catechism Examination 2014-15, on February 26 at the Bishop’s House.
The programme began with a prayer dance by the students of St Mary’s School Udupi. Fr Steevan D’Souza, Director of Divya Joythi, welcomed the gathering.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese, presided over the function. Fr Fredrick Mascarenhas, Dean of Udupi Deanery and parish priest of Udupi Church, was present on the dais.
Fr Chethan Lobo, Capuchin Head of Family Life Commission, in his keynote address outlined a devoted life in the family. He said, “It is wrong to say that only Popes, Bishops or clergy could be become saints. We have to keep our promise of being a devoted wedded couple.” He clarified the responsibility of the parents in keeping the family’s faith in God.
The Bishop felicitated 32 students who secured the highest marks in the Catechism examination conducted by the diocese with a certificate, memento and the holy book.
After the felicitation programme, the Bishop in his presidential address said, “We have to build a strong foundation of faith in God which will be secured in our life. I have no doubt that those who secured highest marks in Catechism will surely get highest marks in SSLC examinations.”
Shaila Fernandes of Udupi compered the programme and Fr Steevan D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks. 32 students along with their parents took part in the felicitation ceremony.
