Udupi: The diocese of Udupi and Udupi district Working Journalists Association jointly organised a Deepavali get-together and a lecture on Literature and Media at Don Bosco Hall, Bishop’s House here, on Wednesday, November 11.
Msgr Baptist Menezes, Vicar General of Udupi Diocese, welcomed the gathering. Prof Dr Vivek Rai, former vice chancellor of Hampi KSOU University, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
Delivering the lecture on ‘Literature and Media’, Dr Vivek Rai said that digital media has paved way for the flow of ideas and research oriented literature. Effective and constructive discussions influence readers in digital platforms. New trends are being witnessed in literature with the emergence of digital media. There are criticisms too but it these have led to sharing of ideas and views.
Today, media has become a form of literature. Literary influence can be witnessed in headlines and news stories. The media houses before followed a stiff form of writing, but these days artistic forms of writing has influenced readers. The change in style of writing has made news stories interesting, he added.
Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, presided over the function and conveyed Deepavali wishes to the journalists. Fr Denis D’sa, public relation officer of the diocese, introduced Dr Viveka Rai to the audience.
Information officer of Udupi district Rohini, president of Udupi district Working Journalists Association Jayakar Suvarna and others were present. Michael Rodrigues, media co-ordinator of Udupi Diocese, delivered the vote of thanks. Vincent Alva Pamboor compered the programme.
