Udupi boy Niranjan Prasad secures 100 percent in CAT 2018

 Udupi: The result of common admission test (CAT) that were announced on Saturday has brought cheers to management aspirants from Karnataka with many qualifying for the entry into Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) across the country. Making Karnataka   proud, Niranjan Prasad is one among the 11 toppers and only from Karnataka to score an overall 100 percentile in the CAT conducted by IIM-Calcutta in November.

Niranjan Prasad, a native of Manipal is currently pursuing Mechanical dual degree programme at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chennai. Niranjan’s father Jayadev Prasad Moleyar is a professor and head of the department at Mangalore at Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering at Moodabidri in Dakshina Kannada and mother Keerthana Prasad is a professor at Manipal University.

 An elated Niranjan spoke to Deccan Herald and shared details about his preparation and future plans. “I am very happy with the results and I am anticipating admission offer from all the seven prominent IIMs across the country. I am still thinking about whether to pursue a career in the field of technology or take up management. I have also been considering a masters programme abroad. I will discuss with my parents and well-wishers before taking a final call,” Niranjan Prasad reveled.

Sharing his joy further Niranjan explained, “Economics is one of my interest subjects and I have been observing the development of Indian economy meticulously for some time. I want to contribute to the country’s economy in a big way and I would work in that direction.” Niranjan attributed his success to his parents and said that his discussions with father who is also an economist helped him a lot. Niranjan obtained his basic education at Little Rock Indian School in Brahmava, Udupi district.

Taking pride in his son’s achievement at the national level, Niranjan’s father Jayadev Prasad Moleyar said that he had been at the top in several talent search exams in the past too. “He had previously secured top rank in the National Talent Search exam. He had secured 23rd rank in CET, and 13th Rank in the Manipal University exams,” Prof Moleyar revealed. He used to get excited about logic science, communication, management and economics. I feel that he would definitely emerge as a top economist,” he added.

 According to parents, Niranjan did not avail any special coaching for the CAT exam. “It was his first attempt. He has a special interest in Data Science. Unfortunately, we do not have special courses in any of the Indian institutes and he is considering pursuing a course in the US. Hopefully, he will get admission in IIM-Ahmedabad where I too had studied three decades ago,” Prof Moleyar revealed.
