Voting begins smoothly for Lok Sabha elections in Udupi district

Udupi: Voting for the Lok Sabha elections began in Udupi district in a smooth manner on Thursday, April 18.
There are 15,13,231 voters in the eight Assembly constituencies in both Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts. 38,503 men, 7,74,674 women and 54 third gender voters will exercise their franchise. There are 1,837 polling stations in the constituency and 865 polling booths are located in the four Assembly constituencies in Udupi district.
Twelve candidates are in the fray in Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency. The candidates who are in the fray are Shobha Karandlaje (BJP), Pramod Madhwaraj (JD(S), M K Dayanand (Proutist Sarva Samaj Party), M K Ganesh (Independent), Gautam Prabhu (Shiv Sena), Shekar Havanje (Republican Party of India), Suresh Kunder (Uttama Prajakeeya Party), Vijay Kumar (CPI, Marxist and Leninist, Red Star), P Parameshwar (BSP), Amrit Shenoy (Independent), K C Prakash (Independent) and Abdul Rehman (Independent).
There are 20 all-women, two disable-friendly and one ethnic booth in the four Assembly constituencies.
Congress leader and Rajyasabha member Oscar Fernandes and his wife Blossom exercised their franchise at the Vivekananda school in Ajjarkad, Udupi.
Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake along with his wife Daksha Sorake, and Son Dvishan Sorake exercised their franchise at the Girls PU College in Udupi.
Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Congress-JDS Coalition candidate Pramod Madhwaraj along with mother former MP Manorama Madhwaraj, wife Supriya Raj, sister Babitha Raj exercised their franchise at the Narayana Guru School in Malpe.
Udupi Diocese Bishop Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo exercised his franchise at TMA Pai Modern Hr Primary School Udupi.
