Udupi: On behalf of the Christian community, the Udupi Diocese offered Hore Kanike on Thursday January 14, for the Paryaya festival of Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math who is ascending the Paryaya peeta for the Fifth time.
The initiative was taken by the Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh. The Hore kanike procession was flagged off by Oscar Fernandes Rajya Sabha member at Jodukatte near Big Bazar.
Speaking on the occasion Oscar Fernandes said that, the paryaya celebration is the celebration of all faiths residing in Udupi. People of all faiths are giving their offerings for the Paryaya which is highly appreciable. The spirit of togetherness is witnessed among Hindu, Christian and Muslim communities in holding the Paryaya, he added.
More than 30 vehicles laden with paddy, vegetables, coconuts, and other food items were taken out in a grand procession to the temple, where the offerings were made. The procession was flagged off at Jodukatte near Big Bazar. The procession passed through the Court road, KM Marg and culminated at the Sri Krishna Temple.
Catholic Sabha Udupi Pradesh, Indian Catholic Youth Movement, Young Christian Students Movement, Women’s Associations of Udupi Diocese and Milagres English Medium School Santhekatte took part in the procession.
