Udupi: The Municipal Workers’ Day ( Poura Karmika Dinacharene) was organised at Sathyamoorthy Hall, Udupi CMC on Wednesday, September 23.
The programm began with an invocation. Raghavendra, CMC Health officer, welcomed the gathering. Yuvraj, president of City Municipal Council, inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
In his message, Yuvraj lauded the contribution of ‘pourakarmikas’ in keeping the city clean. He also asked the ‘pourakarmikas’ to take care of their health.
The chief guest of the function, Dr G S Chandreshekar – medical director of Adarsha Hospital, said that ‘pourakarmikas’ work hard to remove garbage and hazardous waste across the city. But, a majority of them suffer from illness due to lack of awareness. Steps are required to educate them about the importance of hygiene, drinking clean water and sanitation. Health insurance play an important role in the lives of the ‘pourakarmikas’.” He appealed to the pouramkarmikas to avail at least one health insurance scheme.
The city municipality handed over household items to the ‘pourakarmikas’ on the occasion. Later, a health check-up camp was organised for the family members of the pourakarmikas with help of Adarasha Hospital. Diabetes, hypertension, general check-up, echo, ECG and cardiac ailments was checked in the camp.
CMC Commissioner Manjunath, standing committee president Vijay Manchi, councillor Ramesh Kanchan, Celina Karkada, Ganesh Nergi, Latha, Shobha and others were present on the occasion.
