Udupi: The Congress-led Siddaramaiah government has failed to ensure protection to women in the state, said Sheela K Shetty, president of Bharatiya Janata Party district Women’s Wing. She was addressing the protesters at a protest held by the BJP Mahila Morcha against the Gang Rape of a BPO Employee in Bengaluru on Thursday, October 7 here at the Clock Tower.

“The state government is protecting criminals. The BJP will continue its agitation against the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government for creating lawlessness in the state. A 22-year-old employee of a leading BPO in Madivala was gang-raped by the driver and cleaner of a Tempo Traveller. While she was waiting to catch a bus to her house in HSR Layout, a Tempo Traveller offered to drop the waiting passengers to Madivala, Bommanahalli and HSR Layout.”

“There was nobody else in the vehicle. The victim grew suspicious and protested. She told them to stop and asked them where they were heading. The duo threatened her with a knife, took her to a secluded place and raped her. Many similar cases have been reported in the state after the Congress party came to power. The government is not concerned about the safety of women. Since Congress has come to power in the state, there has been a complete failure of law and order,” she added.

Zilla Panchayat member Githanjali Suvarna addressing the protesters said that parents are worried about sending their wards to school after the increase in rape incidents on school children. “The Congress government has failed to take measures to restore confidence in the parents. The government has failed to prevent crimes against women,” she added.

Shyamala Kundar BJP state woman wing secretary, Geetha Ravi Shet, Sandhya Ramesh, Rashmitha Balakrishna Shetty, Yaspal Suvarna, Raghavendra Uppor, Rama, Sharadha, Shilpa Suvarna and others were present.
