Udupi CMC Failed in tackling Drinking Water Scarcity – Mattar Rathnakar Hegde
Udupi: The district BJP president Mattar Rathnakar Hegde has said that the Udupi City Municipal Council has completely failed in tackling the drinking water scarcity situation in the city limits and is trying to misguide the people.
He was speaking at a press meet held at the District BJP office on Tuesday May 9, the drinking water issue in the city has gone from bad to worse. The city Municipal council and district minister in-charge Pramod Madhwaraj has not taken the issue seriously. The drinking water issue could have been tackled if they had planned for a solution.
He alleged that drinking water was not available anywhere on the premises of the hospital for visitors nor the patients. Patients and family members accompanying them are compelled to buy drinking water from outside during their stay at the hospital which is not affordable for poor people. During his election manifesto, Pramod Madhwaraj had assured the people of Udupi City that he will provide the Varahi Water to the Udupi CMC but has failed to full fill his promise.
The shortage of sand in the district has affected the ongoing projects and also the construction of houses under various housing schemes of the government. We had alerted the district administration and elected representatives on the shortage of sand and demanded a sand policy. However, the negligent attitude of the authorities has aggravated the situation. The state government has utterly failed to form a proper sand mining policy in the state. The district minister in-charge should take up the issue immediately to find a solution, he added.
The district level Bharatiya Janata Party working committee meet will be held at the Byndoor Rajarajeshwari Kala Mandir on May 13. Former chief minister and BJP State president B S Yeddyurappa will inaugurate the meet and on the same day address a public rally at Vandse, he said.
