Udupi: “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should be held responsible for the murders following communal incidents in the state,” said Shobha Karandlaje, MP of Udupi-Chikkamangluru LS constituency. She was speaking at a protest organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) demanding that the government initiate stern action against the alleged killings of Hindus in communal incidents following the celebration of Tipu Jayanti. The protest was organized in front of the Clock Tower here, on November 14.
“The Congress government is promoting rift between communities for political gain. Intolerance is prevailing over the state promoted by the Congress government. Former Home Minister K J George predicted that Kutappa died after he slipped and fell from a compound wall. George seems to be an astrologer who gave the statement on the findings of Kutappa’s death even before the police report was to be filed. The probe initiated has been influenced by Congress ministers,” she alleged.
Hitting hard on the writer and actor Girish Karnad, Shobha said that Karnad was acting like the confidant of the Congress party.” He has insulted Kempegowda saying that he had no role in the freedom struggle and his name was to be replaced with Tipu Sultan’s for the international airport in Bengaluru. The government has awarded Jnanapeet award for a person like Girish Karnad who has no sense and knowledge. Karnad is expressing Siddaramaiah’s thoughts,” she alleged.
The intelligence wing of the state is headed by the Chief Minister and it is expected to report the crucial events haunting the state. But the wing has failed to report the effects of celebrating Tipu Jayanti to the Chief Minister. The government has failed to take security measures in curbing violence after the celebration of Tipu Jayanti, she added.
She further said that the Congress government should justify its role in the killings following the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti. “Goons from Kerala are said to be involved in the killing of Kutappa but the government is silent on the same.”
“CM Siddaramaiah should step down from his post as he is solely responsible for the killings in the state. The government should pay Rs 25 lakh as compensation to Kutappa’s family. If the government still remains adamant towards Hindus and continues pleasing minorities, severe protests will be held in the near future,” she added.
K Raghupati Bhat, former MLA of Udupi constituency, said that Sonia Gandhi is leading a march to the President against intolerance. “She should also sack CM Siddaramaiah for promoting intolerance in the state. The government should not celebrate Tipu Jayanti henceforth as it paves way for communal violence,” he added.
VHP leader Suprasad Shetty said that their organization will not allow Girish Karnad’s plays to be aired in Udupi.
The protesters then blocked the road for 20 minutes and later, with the intervention of the police, dispersed. Tight security was deployed in the city. The bus services from Udupi-Mangaluru, which were stopped in the morning, were later resumed. Many passengers stranded in bus stands managed to commute on KSRTC buses. The district has not reported any violent incidents till afternoon.
