Udupi: The BJP government, which came to power after making tall promises of wiping out corruption from the country, has backed corruption, alleged K Shankerof CPI-M. He was speaking during a protest organized by CPI-M in front of the Clock Tower here, on July 20.
“Sushma Swaraj, Minister for External Affairs, has supported a fugitive, LalitModi, by influencing the British authorities to clear his travel documents. LalitModi is wanted by the law enforcement directorate. A red corner notice has also been served against him by the Interpol. Vasundhara Raje’s financial dealings with Lalit Modi shows the commitment of the BJP to wipe out corruption from the country.”
The Vypam scam where the accused and the witnesses are dying in large numbers in Madhya Pradesh is another example of BJP’s anti-corruption policy, he said. Shivraj Singh Chouhan is trying his best to ruin the investigation process.
“The Maharashtra government is drowned in corruption. BJP ministers, PankajMunde and Vinod Tawde, have not followed the norms of granting contracts of Rs 206 and 191 crore. The Chattisgarh government is also following in the footsteps of its leaders by involving in corruption. The alleged fake degrees of Smriti Irani, the Minister for Human Resource Development, is also haunting the BJP.”
He also said that the central government should soon constitute an enquiry panel under a retired judge to probe the financial irregularities and corruption cases of its ministers. The ministers should be sacked until the enquiry commission submits its report.
“The Congress led State Government is backing Lokayukta Bhaskar Rao who is alleged to be involved in corruption. Lokayukta Bhaskar Rao should soon resign from the office,” he added.
K V Bhat, Secretary CPI(M) Udupi, Balakrishna Shetty CPI(M) and others were present.
