Udupi: Hundreds of visitors converge on the Malpe-Vadabhandeshwar beach every day, with the figure crossing thousands on Sundays and during holidays.
During non-monsoon seasons, large numbers throng the fishing harbour jetty to cruise to St Mary’s Isles, a picturesque picnic spot known for its rare basalt rock formations. Now the visitors to the beach have some heartening news.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is getting set to provide visitors and tourists to the Malpe beach with an hour-long free Wi-Fi facility every day with effect from January 15, 2016.
For the time being, a payment of Rs 1 lakh has been made by the department of toursim to the BSNL to cover the expenses for three months.
Apparently, the arrangement may be extended from time to time, depending on the utility and response from the public.
Whether the hour-long facility will be made available at a fixed point in a day or at different timings on different days is yet to be known.
