Udupi DC Jagadeesh takes to the Streets, Imposes Fine for Not Following COVID-19 Guidelines
Udupi: Deputy commissioner G Jagadeesh, and Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu on July 21, conducted surprise visits to the city’s shopping centres and hotels to inspect the effective implementation of COVID-19 norms.
DC Jagadeesh started his visit from the Service Bus-stand. During the visit, he checked on how the lower rung of the administration was functioning.
The DC visited the hotels and shops and inspected whether all were wearing the mask and maintaining social distancing. The deputy commissioner imposed fines for those who violated the norms without wearing the mask and not maintaining social distancing.
Later speaking to the media persons, DC Jagadeesh said, “Social distancing and wearing the mask will help to prevent the virus from spreading. But unfortunately, some people have taken this very lightly in the district. Many people are getting out of their homes and roaming around without valid reasons and without wearing the mask”.
DC Jagadeesh further said, “We are not satisfied with the enforcement of the COVID guidelines. At the markets, people are not following social distancing, nor are they using the mask properly. Many people wear masks but leave their nose uncovered, which defeats the purpose of wearing the mask. Crowding in many places is a cause of concern for us. People continue to gather around in the city without any purpose”.
Maintaining social distancing norms and wearing the mask has been made mandatory as per the directions of the Union Home Ministry.
