Udupi: The District Commissioner’s office in Udupi, Karnataka, has launched a helpline to enable the public to file complaints against illegal money lenders. This move aims to regulate microfinance lending and prevent coercive actions by lenders.
Registration Mandatory for Money Lenders
As per the Karnataka Micro Loan and Small Loan Ordinance, 2025, all money lenders operating in Karnataka must register with the Registering Authority within 30 days of the commencement of the ordinance. This includes:
– Microfinance institutions
– Small loan agencies
– Digital lending platforms
– Partnership firms
– Individuals or groups of individuals
Filing Complaints Against Illegal Money Lenders
The public can file complaints against illegal money lenders who violate the provisions of the Karnataka Micro Loan and Small Loan Ordinance, 2025. Complaints can be lodged at:
